What are your Fiesta Traditions?

Clarissa de la Garcia, senior computer science major, from San Antonio
“Typically, my family and I will go to [Fiesta’s] Oyster Bake … Oyster Bake is the big one with a carnival and Tejano music. They have rock, a lot of really good food and a Ferris wheel. It’s just all-around good fun. I also like going to the Battle of Flowers Parade. My little sister is going to go do mariachi for them … It’s a lot of fun, and you can’t beat chicken on a stick.”

Ash Meckel, senior economics major, from Austin
“The entire downtown becomes a party. All the streets get closed down, even up to Trinity’s campus. The thing you’ve got to go to is NIOSA [A Night in Old San Antonio], which is super fun. You buy a ticket, and then you get to go around all these different booths, and you get a few food and drink coupons. Last time I was there, they had a Jimi Hendrix cover band. It was really lit.”

Camryn Sperling, junior political science and economics major, from Dallas
“I will be in the River Parade next Monday on the Trinity alumni float. It’s shaped like a boom box. I will be standing, waving, dancing and having a great time with Trinity alumni. I have collected medals, and I have been to the fair before, but I have not made it to the parade yet.”

Kevyn Spill, junior history and religion major, from San Antonio.
“I always watch the parades on television, staying up late and watching the River Parade. I love the River Parade. It’s my favorite. Around nighttime on the River Walk, you’ll have these floats that will come down every year for Fiesta …They are always beautiful. There are always a bunch of lights and a bunch of beautiful decorations. I love it.”
